Hideout 101: Lesson 2, Magic Itself

Introduction
Well now that you’re familiar with Nenad itself, how about we learn about the most important thing in Nenad: magic! In Nenad, everything runs on magic, which is grouped into several categories. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Keywords
Any magic user has a personal keyword used to ground the spell to them. Casting a spell with words would require them to say “(keyword) (spell)”, and this prevents the magic from doing what it wants and puts them in control of the spell. Some keyword examples are:  Mori’s is “Azul”, Ension’s is “Spotsolas”, Dess’s is “Hikaru” and Allium’s is “Vrah”.

Magical Signatures
Every being with a soul (sorry, Memento) has a magical signature on them which determines what sort of magic they will accel in. this doesn’t usually mean they CAN’T learn any other type of Magic, just that it’s hard. For instance you could be born with an affinity for White magic and Fire but learns Black magic and water with a bit of work.

Practical and Combat
Most magic is thrown into two categories, practical and combat. As you may imagine, Practical Magic is any spell used for everyday tasks like cleaning, cooking, and powering Magitech. Combat Magic is for battle, and is divided into even more categories.

Black and White Magic
This is a pretty simple things: Black Magic is offensive (mostly) and White Magic is defensive (mostly), but they are by no means “Dark” and “Light” magic or “Evil” and “Good” magic. Also, no element is pinned to black or white, and can be used by someone who accels with either type, although there is element affinities too. Black Mages will use curses, status effects, and more damage dealing moves whereas White mages will use healing, buff/debuff, and guarding moves.

Classes
Actually, “Classes” as they are known in Nenad are completely meaningless. They are just titles thrown around by adventurers to give other people ideas of what they can do. You can claim to be whatever the crap you want but if you falsely advertise that may get you in trouble.

Elements:
I’m not even going to list to elements used by magic in Nenad, just know that there’s a lot. Wielding elemental magic is a pretty typical thing for magic users.

Magic user titles (all are gender neutral):
Magician
For those whose magic is drawn from themselves

Wizard
For those whose magic is drawn from the world around them

Caster
For those who use words or artifacts for magic

Magiscientist
A magic user, who studies magical sciences, can be any of the above.

Mage/magic user
Anyone not professional enough for one of the above titles
